SUMMARY DISTRIBUTION MANAGEMENT (KUNJUNGAN ILMIAH)

KAMAJAYA’S WAREHOUSING SYSTEM

In the main gate of KAMAJAYA’S Warehouse, there’s security system to the workers for being body checked when they enter and come out of the warehouse. Inside the 6,500 m2 building, the inbound process starts from the container to put in the Arnott’s goods by the pickers. The pickers move the goods beside the inbound area. Next step is the goods are checked by the checkers, and sort them by the pallet.

Usually, 1 pallet contains 40 boxes. As the rep said, 1 pallet can lift up to 2 – 2.5 ton of weight and also, the warehouse isn’t an ideal warehouse because the path of the forklift can only fit for 2 cars and it can affect the safety of the workers. The checkers check how many goods inside 1 box using barcode which stick on the body of the box. Every 1 box has 1 barcode. For the example is H41A1. H means year, 41 means month, A means day, and 1 means shift number.

After the inbound process, the process continue with the repack system, it should be repack to get more value added sevice in many meaning, such as to reduce the cost or get more  economic value. Next, the goods are put in the box again and moved to the rack. The goods are sorted by FIFO, LIFO, or FEFO. FIFO, First-In-First-Out, means that the one which comes first should be taken first too. LIFO, Last-In-First-Out, means that the one which comes last should be taken first. And, FEFO, First-Expired-First-Out, means to take the goods which is close to the expired date.

If the goods need to be distributed as the proper date, the boxes are moved to the outbound area. The checkers have to check the barcode again to ensure that the goods are still the same. After all the steps are done, the last step is to put them to the container and continue with the distribution process.

AGILITY’S WAREHOUSING SYSTEM

As the usual, first activity of warehousing system is the security. The workers are checked by the security staff to assure what they bring in to the warehouse is the same stuffs with what they bring out.

The inbound process start from moving out the goods to the hall of inbound to be checked by the checkers using a system called RF (Radio Frecuency). The RF scans the barcode at the side of the pallet. The pallet contains informations about quantity, kind of goods, many more. The RF is used to be done for product tracking.

The barcode is also used for putting the goods to the racks. The racks have their code to make the workers not confused when continue to the next process. The racks is divided by the kind of goods to make more efficient and save the space of the warehouse.

After the workers put the goods to the rack, if the goods need to be distributed, the goods should be moved to the checking system using computer to ensure that the goods inside the box are still the same as when they were put in. The AGILITY called all of their warehousing activity as WMS (Warehousing Management System).

The last step is the outbound. The goods that has been checked with computerized system are moved to the outbound area using the vehicles. They are sorted by the number of the containers and the destination of the distribution center. Again, the goods are checked using RF, and moved to the container to be distributed as the exact time.
